juncture in contemporary times - marked by rapid technological advancement
(especially in Information Technology and the Life Sciences), the rise of the
Creative Economy (e.g. cultural industries), the post-socialist transformation
of the People's Republic of China, political uncertainty and new security risks
(e.g. terrorism and SARS). The 21st century world demands of graduates,
teachers, and scholars new perspectives and attitudes, which transcend narrow
